I think it's me that came up with this method.

You can see some more of my experiments here:

I hope that shows the real power of just how deep you can get with it.

I'm currently working directly with Kris Boulton on the unstoppable learning program, so hopefully I can harness his wisdom and produce some highly bespoke resources using LaTeX.

It certainly is Duncan. I’ve linked to your excellent site early on in the post. Happy to name check you as well if you don’t mind? I’ve also reached out a while back via email (Kris passed it on) to invite you on the podcast to discuss AI resource creation if you are up for it?

Hey, yes I sent you a couple of emails replying but perhaps you missed them!

I’ll send you another now to discuss.

This is fantastic. As a newly qualified Mathematics teacher after a 25 year career in the AI industry then I have seen so much inefficiency in the education sector which can be solved by AI. One of my key frustrations so far in my very short journey in teaching is lesson planning. It takes so long to create a great lesson despite there being a huge amount of content however the quality can be hit and miss.

I have been experimenting with generative AI (initially Chatgpt but have moved to Mistral.ai as I want to support European AI organisations) to create both lesson plans and content and the technology is getting better. The key is the prompt as you say and as I learn the academic principles behind mathematics pedagogy then I think my prompts are improving which is delivering better results.

I am more sceptical - better versions of those worksheets already exist, we don't need to keep creating new worksheets because AI!

If a bespoke worksheet is needed, I don't see the advantage compared to something like Mathsbot/DFM who have almost always done the hard thought and would produce the above examples quicker and in higher quality.

I am becoming less sceptical. As I wrote, there is nothing special about this initial output. But the fact that it can be tweaked with nothing more than a sentence is important. But more so, in future newsletters, we will look at creating more bespoke resource types that are not as widely available. Thanks for your comment!

I've also been pleasantly surprised by how well ChatGPT can format in LaTeX to be able to just copy and paste into Overleaf - saves me so much time and produces decent resources that I don't need to spend time adjusting myself. I'm a big fan of LaTeX and have been using it to create worksheets for years, but ChatGPT has massively sped this up for me and I don't know that I will look back!

I haven't used ChatGPT to create any worksheets as yet, but I do use it to produce worked solutions and 'similar problems' to exam questions for my exam classes. I'm also impressed that if I ask for it to be in the style of exam questions from a specific exam board and give some past exams as 'inspiration' it is able to yield quite solid results (albeit that require refinement from me as a teacher).

I'm still not massively impressed by it's ability to create more complex diagrams (for instance for use in A-level mechanics and further mechanics questions) but I do feel this is just a matter of time.

I feel similarly that I am learning a lot from playing around with AI and that I am enjoying figuring out what prompts to give to ensure optimum results. I also enjoy telling ChatGPT it's wrong and to check again (worried this means I have a power complex though?!) - and to see how it is able to identify it's mistakes and quickly rethink it's approaches. I have, however, had to warn off ECTs that I work with against using AI too broadly as I think you are right that you lose some of the actually skill in creating resources if you have not already learned and practiced this skill prior to using AI tools. But, it is a new generation of teachers we are now getting who will have benefitted from AI in their university degrees and teacher training, so I'm sure they will come with new and interesting ideas for how to incorporate this in their lessons. Interested to see what comes next!
