3-Read Friday #97
Offloading, AI Tutors, and mini-whiteboards
Before we begin, you may want to check out my brand-new 16-part book series, The Tips for Teachers guide to… here. Book 15 on Low-Stakes Quizzes is now available.
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Offloading? No Outsourcing! by Paul Kirschner
I have definitely used the phrase “cognitive offloading” to describe what students (or teachers!) do when they give a complex task to AI and do not engage in the thinking themselves. It turns out that is not the phrase I should be using, and the distinction matters!
2. Maybe LLM tutors might be able to work... by Daisy Christodoulou
Warning: I have more than a vested interest in this post by Daisy, as it discusses a study my company, Eedi, did with Google. It was fascinating to get Daisy’s take on it, which was largely positive, and also consider her challenges.
3. You Should Use Mini Whiteboards by Dylan Kane
It’s been a while (too long?) since we had a mini-whiteboard post, so here you go. Dylan takes a deep dive into exactly what he uses mini-whiteboards for and how he makes it work.
Have a great weekend!
Craig

Thanks Craig - your posts are always short & VERY SWEET!
Totally agree with that link to Carl - outsourcing is likely the BIGGEST negative of AI! And OMG - I don’t even want to think about the impact of these long term!
As for the other 2 suggested posts - I’ve not read them… I’ll check them out & see how I go!
Just like to give positives wherever I can - and this is one opportunity to be positive as your short, sweet reads are a breath of fresh air! 👍👍😊
