1. The Motivation Fractal by Dylan Kane
I have long believed that the best way to motivate our students is not to make lesson content relevant to their lives or spice up presentations with fancy animations and GIFs but to make them feel successful. Dylan explains this better than I could, complete with my favourite new motivational visual.
2. Five Myths About Teacher Professional Learning by Jim Knight
This article by Jim Knight challenged my beliefs on effective CPD and coaching. There is plenty to think about here for teaching and learning leads and all teachers who engage in professional development.
3. Why US schools have fallen in love with scripted lessons by Holly Korbey
As recently as 5 years ago, I was totally against scripted lessons. Hundreds of school visits later, I think the case for them in some departments is compelling. I found this article about how some schools in the US are coming around the idea of scripted lessons fascinating.

Holly Korbey’s article was very interesting but also a bit frustrating because, as used in the US, scripted is used to refer to everything from giving teachers a high-quality curriculum to actually scripting the lessons. There are very different and when she talks about research offering support, it isn’t clear what level of “script” is supported. A high-quality curriculum is an absolute no-brainer…..detailed scripts in the classroom, no so much. I’d need to see a lot of strong research to convince me on that.
