Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Making Retrieval Practice Actually Work by Carl Hendrick
Carl, one of my favourite education writers, now has a Suvstack! This is an incredible post summarising the key things teachers need to know to make retrieval practice impactful.
2. Why We Don't Talk About Summative and Formative Assessment by Becky Allen and Matthew Evans
An interesting argument here: all assessments must be both formative and summative, otherwise, they cannot fulfil their purpose. And what is their purpose? To promote learning. The post goes on to confront some less-than-ideal practices that can result from trying to divide tests into formative or summative camps.
3. How to Waste a Teacher by Dan Meyer
I love Dan’s musings on the different perspectives of EdTech companies and teachers on the role of AI. This post is a great reminder of the importance of teacher experience on student outcomes, and what - at this moment in time at least - feels like the most impactful way AI can further improve those outcomes.
