Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Don’t make the thing, the Thing by Claire Stoneman
This is an important post from Claire, urging leaders to be cautious when suggesting (or requesting!) colleagues implement new strategies and ideas. Here is my favourite line: “Unless the strategies and tools translate into teacher thought and – crucially – pupil thought (because that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing, right?), we’re just fiddling while Rome burns”.
2. Different, yet the same by Paul Kirschner
This is the best post I have read to address the question of whether all students learn the same way and, if so, what the implications are for teaching. The analogy with the digestive system is really helpful.
3. A Nice Worksheet by Dylan Kane
One for the maths geeks! Here, Dylan shares a worksheet on simplifying algebraic expressions, talking through his decisions when creating it.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, you might like to check out my new 90-minute online CPD workshops. But, most important of all, have a great weekend.
