Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Teaching Multiple Strands at Once by Dylan Kane
One of the things that surprised me most when I read a copy of Connecting Math Concepts - the definitive Direct Instruction teaching series - was that the lessons did not have a single theme (such as adding fractions) but instead contained strands of several, often disconnected, themes. Dylan shares his experiences of trying to implement this approach in his teaching.
2. Generative AI and the Future of Artisan Teaching by Becky Allen
Regular readers will know that using AI to save teachers time and help them do their jobs better is a current obsession of mine. Here, Becky delves into the issue in the way only she can.
3. The Key to Motivating Students - and Maybe Everyone Else Too by Natalie Wexler
How to motivate students is a question teachers constantly ask ourselves. This post by Natsalie provides a great overview of motivation research. One finding comes through loud and clear: Achievement consistently predicts motivation, but motivation does not predict achievement. So the best way to motivate students may be to enable them to experience achievement.
