Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. The Benefits (and Perils) of Thinking Hard by Andrew Watson
Andrew always does a great job of picking out an interesting piece of research and extracting the key implications for the classroom. This latest instalment delves into a paper investigating the relationship between the amount of mental effort students put into a task and their perception of how much they are learning.
2. On building relationships by Jo Castelino
What motivates students to love learning? Is it the personality of the teacher or something else? Jo digs into this fascinating area.
3. Don Steward’s blog ‘Median’: a source of high-quality teaching and practice materials by Tom Francome
One for the maths geeks. Don Steward, who sadly passed away in 2020, was one of the greatest task designers of all time. Tom and the team at Loughborough University have completed the monumental task of digitising Don’s paper-based archive. I can't wait to get stuck in.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
