Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Designing the perfect assessment system, part 1 by Daisy Christodoulou
Nobody writes better about assessment than Daisy. In the first post in this series, Daisy looks at two conflicting purposes of assessment: to assess students’ understanding and to hold teachers and schools to account.
2. Lesson Objectives Are Overrated by Dylan Kane
Lesson objectives force teachers to ensure each phase of their lesson is in service of those objectives. But, as Dylan points out, that is nonsense. Where does retrieval practice fit in? How about prerequisite knowledge checks, method selection, creating feelings of success, and all the other “objectives” that do not fit into tidy sentences?
3. Will AI Transform Teaching and Learning? by Larry Cuban
If, like me, you are intrigued / excited / concerned (I flick between these states several times a day) by the impact AI could have on teaching and learning, you should find this reflection by Larry interesting.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
