Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. What have Ofsted wanted schools to improve so far this year? by Pete Foster
I love Pete’s series of posts on Ofsted. This latest instalment dives deep into recent Ofsted reports to find themes and trends in what schools are asked to improve.
2. Closing the knowing-deciding-doing gap by Sarah Cottinghatt
Another banger from Sarah, this time looking at how coaches can support teachers to close the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it. The video in the post is well worth a watch.
3. A Critique of the Expertise Reversal Effect by Dylan Kane
This is one for the research geeks (like me!). Dylan delves into cognitive load theory research and raises concerns about the use of terms like expert, novice, and problem-solving.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
Craig
I’m intrigued to see what other changes are made to Ofsted. Like every teacher, I have some opinions on them - and have been a big part of an Ofsted inspection already - but I’m more interested in observing and learning about what’s going on. Watching intently!
I love 3read Friday. It’s relevant, useful, doesn’t take more than 15mins to read, and encompasses a variety of topics that I’d never find by myself. Thanks Craig!
