Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Analogies for Learning by Blake Harvard
Showing students the purpose of what they are doing is a good way to get them on board so they put in the required effort to learn. However, this can be challenging for an abstract concept such as retrieval. Blake has a solution - use analogies to make it concrete.
2. To do or not to do by Ian Frost
Something a bit different here from Ian. A reframing of the ubiquitous To-do list into a Done list. I like it!
3. What the Science of Reading Says “Post-Phonics” & Meeting Up in Nashville by Doug Lemov
I have a personal interest in reading development at the moment as I watch my eldest son, Isaac, get to grips with phonics. I also have a professional interest as I look for similarities and differences between maths development and reading development. This blog from Doug provides a great overview of the science of reading research.
