This newsletter is made possible by Eedi. Check out our brand-new set of diagnostic quizzes, videos, and practice questions for every single maths topic, ready to use in the classroom, and all for free, here.
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Do we need to learn how to listen? by Alex Quigley
Ever since my conversation with Pritesh Raichura, I have become obsessed with students listening - or more accurately, students not listening - in the classroom. This post from Alex shares some concrete strategies we can use to help our students listen more.
2. We need to stop cold calling by Claudia Lewis
I love a post that challenges one of my long-standing beliefs. Here, Claudia addresses a fundamental issue with Cold Calling students, and suggests what we can do instead.
3. Using hinge point questions in English by David Didau
Regular readers will know that I am a sucker for a good multiple-choice diagnostic question. However, my experience is largely confined to the world of maths. Therefore, I enjoyed David’s post, delving into what makes an effective multiple-choice diagnostic question in English.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.

This is a cracking set of blogs this week. Really make me think and excellent theme of checking for understanding/listening.
