This newsletter is made possible because of Eedi. Check out our brand-new set of diagnostic quizzes, videos, and practice questions for every single maths topic, ready to use in the classroom, and all for free, here.
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Strong Procedures and Routines for Participation: The Critical Role of Teacher Practice by Doug Lemov
The start of the academic year is the ideal time to introduce or tighten up routines with students. In this video from the Teach like a Champion team, we see two teachers discuss and then rehearse how they will introduce a routine for paired discussion (Turn and Talk) in their classrooms.
2. First Weeks #2 What are my priorities in the classroom? by Pete Foster
What will we focus on during the first few weeks of the new school year? How will we ensure they set us up for a productive year of learning? Pete aims this post at new teachers, but I think there is value here for teachers of all experiences.
3. Teachers Love Theories by Michael Pershan
Many readers will have heard about or read the book Building Thinking Classrooms by Peter Liljedahl. I am sure many more will be aware of Carol Dwek’s book on Growth Mindsets. In this post, Michael Pershan analyses why these books are so popular among teachers, and offers a few words of caution.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
