☀️ Eedi Summer Club is back! Read here for more details ☀️
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. How Do We Learn by Hector Ruiz Martin by G-Rob
I attended some CPD delivered by Doug Lemov last week (#namedrop). Doug recommended everyone read a new book called How Do We Learn. He shared a passage from the book about the importance of building on prior knowledge, and I was hooked, so it is straight on my summer reading list. This blog post provides an excellent overview of the book.
2. Does instructional coaching have a PR problem? by Paul Cline
Wow, there is a lot to unpack in this excellent post by Paul. The bit that really stood out for me was the section on rehearsal and Paul’s confession that sometimes he chooses not to include rehearsal as part of his coaching. There is plenty to think about for leaders, coaches and coachees here.
3. Developing teaching: What YOU do matters less than what EVERYONE ELSE does by Matthew Evans
When I visit a school to work with their maths department, I always insist on meeting with SLT members at the end of the day to discuss what I have asked colleagues to work on. It is much easier for a department to make a change if there is support from SLT, but also if other departments might wish to work in the same area. Matthew's superb post articulates the power of such interdependencies.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
