This newsletter is made possible because of Eedi. Check out our brand-new set of diagnostic quizzes, videos, and practice questions for every single maths topic, ready to use in the classroom, and all for free, here.
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Fix your curriculum resources first! (but not in the way you think) by Ollie Lovell
Ollie and I regularly discuss the pros and cons of centrally planned resources and curricula during our monthly podcast chats. Here, Ollie outlines his argument for establishing a shared curriculum as soon as possible so we can focus on improving classroom pedagogy.
2. The best way to use one-pagers by Andrew Watson
One-page summaries of key research papers or teaching techniques are everywhere these days. It is easy to see their appeal - teachers are busy, so if someone has done the hard job of curating and then presenting the best of what is out there into a handy, digestible chunk, then what is not to love? Andrew shares some ways these one-pagers could be used ineffectively and some strategies to get the most out of them.
3. Variety Is the Spice of Math Class by Dylan Kane
One for the maths geeks! I recently discovered this 2023 post from Dylan, and it is excellent. It gives you a window into his teaching, emphasising the critical balance between serving students a varied diet of activities and experiences and tapping into the power of consistent routines.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
