Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. My England Travelogue, Part 1: Ark Soane Academy by Doug Lemov
Doug reflects on his visit to Ark Soane Academy, the home of podcast favourite Pritesh Raichura. Doug got to see Pritesh teach and shares his thoughts on Pritesh’s three phases of questioning. Like Doug, I find those questions designed to sustain attention and build memory most fascinating.
2. Thinking about conceptual understanding by Jemma Sherwood
Jemma has a fresh take on the classic “How” before “Why” debate when teaching students maths procedures. Her point is that understanding why a procedure works is not necessarily a demonstration of conceptual understanding. Plenty of food for thought here.
3. Examination Revision Resources by Colleen Young
One for the maths geeks! Colleen shares some free resources for last-minute GCSE and A Level revision featuring two websites I had not encountered before.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. You can also check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But most importantly, have a great weekend.
