This newsletter is made possible because of Eedi. Check out our brand-new set of diagnostic quizzes, videos, and practice questions for every single maths topic, ready to use in the classroom, and all for free, here.
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Planning our mathematical story by Jemma Sherwood
Jemma doesn’t blog all that often, but when she does, it is a good one. Here, Jemma explains the power of the memorable nature of stories, and then proceeds to describe how we can utilise this power when planning and delivering a sequence of lessons.
2. Routines for attention by Jody Chan
If students are not paying attention, they will not learn, and avoiding poor proxies for listening is one of my obsessions at the moment. Here, Jody shares some practical strategies we can use before and during explanations to help sustain our students’ attention.
3. 5 Maths Gems #178 by Jo Morgan
The Queen of Resources returns with another lovely selection of maths gems. I particularly enjoyed Catriona’s take on inverse proportion, Nathan’s set of questions on Pythagoras, and Mr Coward’s product of prime factors task. Lovely stuff for us maths geeks.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
