Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. How to improve teaching (version 2) by South Glous Head
During most of my school visits, I have an opportunity to sit down with the headteacher to discuss their teaching and learning priorities and the challenges they are facing. This wonderful post shares the 10 best bets from an experienced headteacher on how they try to improve teaching and learning in their school. This is gold for any headteacher, but also anyone with leadership responsibilities.
2. ‘I can’t do this, I wasn’t here last lesson’ – Absence, lessons and learning by Mrs Cox
There are no simple solutions to the problem of student absences, but in this thoughtful blog, Mrs Cox shares three practical strategies that she uses successfully in her subject, RE.
3. Targeting indicators by Adam Boxer
It was Sammy Kempner, on my Tips for Teachers podcast, who first hammered home to me the importance of asking the students least likely to know the correct answer if you want a reliable check for understanding. Adam shares some practical ways we can do this in the latest instalment of his excellent Most Common Actions series.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
