This newsletter is made possible because of Eedi. Check out our brand-new set of diagnostic quizzes, videos, and practice questions for every single maths topic, ready to use in the classroom, and all for free, here.
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. On experience and reflection in teaching by Jo Castelino
This is a powerful post about the challenges novice teachers face when observing their more experienced colleagues. The best part is that Jo gives us a series of questions that teachers of all experiences can ask when they watch their colleagues in action in order to understand the reasons behind their decisions.
2. A Nice Worksheet by Dylan Kane
I love a blog post that reflects on a specific lesson. This, from Dylan Kane, is great. He describes why he chose to use a particular worksheet in the vain of the intelligent practice activities on my variation theory website, and contrasts this with two more challenging questions he asked his students later in the lesson. The point about a worksheet making students (and possibly teachers) feel safe really resonated.
3. December 2023 is coming… by Colleen Young
And finally, one for the maths teachers. Colleen has done a great job of compiling the very best Christmas-themed maths resources and advent calenders out there to ensure you can inject some festive fun into your lessons whilst also keeping your students thinking hard about maths. Ho, ho, ho!
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
