NPPPN, Do Now, and the AI Death Zone

Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.

1. The Secret to Crystal-Clear Explanations: The NPPPN Sequence by Dr Dario and Peter

A team-up from two of my favourite Substackers! Dario and Peter show that the NPPPN sequence structure — rooted in Engelmann and Carnine's work — helps students build robust concept understanding by presenting carefully varied positive and negative examples one at a time.

2. The Do Now: Active Ingredients by Dylan Kane

It’s been too long since we featured a Do Now post in 3-Read Friday (at least 3 weeks, right?), so let’s put that right with a belter from Dylan. Dylan argues that an effective Do Now routine should be deliberately simple — short, retrieval-focused, and easy to prepare — because the start of a lesson is the hardest time to teach well.

3. The AI Death Zone: a cautionary tale by Chris Wheadon

I got a sneak preview of this post when I interviewed Daisy Christodoulou for my podcast this week. It is written by her No More Marking co-founder, Chris, and it goes against the sentiments in my own post, The Democratisation of Resource Creation. I’ll be interested in whose side you are on!
