Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Improving teaching: getting over the knowing-doing hump by Paul Cline
This fascinating post from Paul looks at the reasons teachers may not make changes to their practice, even though they know it is the right thing to do. Paul illustrates the issues through his own desire to use a visulaiser more, which has never materialised into actually using a visualiser more. There’s a lot in this post for teachers reflecting upon their own practice, as well as for those who coach or deliver CPD.
2. QLAs – How to Use Them Well by Craig Latimir
Craig has been banging out some cracking blog posts recently. I chose this one because I have long had an issue with Question Level Analyses (QLAs): they take ages to fill out, and I am not convinced they have a positive impact on student learning. Craig is more positive than me, discussing seven ways teachers can use QLAs more effectively.
3. Product of Primes: Extending and Deepening Understanding by Dan Draper
One for the maths geeks! I love few things more than a post that takes a deep dive into the teaching of a concept. Dan does exactly this for the product of prime factors, discussing the sequencing of the lessons, together with the quality resources he has assembled.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
