Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Give them time to think by Jo Castelino
Inspired by my podcast interview with Pritesh Raichura, I have been building in checks for listening as a bridge between information and checking for understanding. In this lovely post, Jo explains how giving students extra time to digest what they have just heard or seen, especially when it is complex or involves several steps, can make these checks for listening even more powerful and therefore better support understanding.
2. OneNote for teachers: what, why and how? by Adam Boxer
I have been a die-hard PowerPoint fan for all my career. But in what could quite easily be described as a midlife crisis, I am a recent convert to teaching with an iPad connected to a board via Bluetooth using Apple TV. The app I use is Goodnotes, having been blown away when seeing it used in a school I was supporting. But Goodnotes is not the only PowerPoint alternative, and in this excellent video, Adam makes a compelling case for using OneNote.
3. Coaching in Pairs or Threes.. and why this can be much better than coaching individuals by Tom Sherrington
On a recent episode of my podcast, Tom described how he favours group coaching over one-to-one. In this post, he expands on why he likes this approach, and the practicalities of making it work. When done well, I can see these group sessions being a super positive experience for all involved.
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
