If you find this newsletter helpful, one way to say thank you is to spare 5 minutes to fill out our misconceptions survey. It’s pretty fun, and you can win £200. Thanks so much!
Here are three blog posts that I found interesting this week.
1. Starts of Lessons – Problems and Solutions by Pete Foster
Another good one from Pete here, addressing a problem common to many of the schools I visit each week: How do you get a consistent good start to lessons? Issues of lateness and behaviour are addressed, and potential solutions are suggested.
2. Decomposing decision-making: a cognitive dimension to teacher rehearsal by Paul Cline
As regular readers will know, I am a recent convert to the importance and power of rehearsal when coaching. Paul takes this to a new level here, suggesting a framework teachers can use to rehearse their thinking and not just their teacher “moves”. The circulation diagram is brilliant!
3. “Area’s Just Times” by Dan Draper
One for the maths geeks! Dan delves deep into a way to tackle a misconception students often hold about area - that you just multiply the given lengths. Dan presents a lovely sequence of questions and includes commentary to explain his thinking. I love posts like this!
If you found this edition of 3-Read Friday useful, feel free to share it with colleagues. Also, you can check out all the back issues of my Eedi newsletter and Tips for Teachers newsletter here. But, most importantly of all, have a great weekend.
